This week’s trainer in the spotlight is international showjumper Daniel Moseley from Lincoln:
Hi, I’m Daniel Moseley, an international showjumper based in Lincoln at Moseley Equestrian. Here, Becky and I run a busy showjumping competition yard, producing and training horses through to top level. I’d describe myself as a hard-working and ambitious individual.
I started riding at the age of 10. My sisters rode from a young age, but I was never really that interested – I preferred football to horses and at the time I was scouted for a very good under 12’s team. However, I then got Rocky, my first pony, and from then on football took a back step.

Before going at it alone in 2013 and creating my own team of horses, I was based with William and Pippa Funnell for nearly five years, where I rode for the Billy Stud in Surrey. There I gained a lot of experience, traveling to shows all over Europe and the UK and got to jump in some very prestigious classes.
I am very thankful for my time there, as they both taught me so much. I would have flatwork lessons with Pippa, and William would work with me on the horses. The one thing that William did was to see the positives in every horse and work on the negatives to produce the horse further.
I have been lucky enough to jump up to International Grand Prix level, and have many great results under my belt. My first major International triumph (which I will never forget) was on Billy Grand, when we won the 3* Grand Prix on the 2012 Sunshine Tour (Spain).
A few months later we then went on the win the Queen Elizabeth’s Cup title at Hickstead. At the time I was the youngest person to ever win the class at the at of 21. I also represented Great Britain in my first Senior Nations Cup in Poland at the age of 20, and went on to become a member of the under 21 European Championship team in Jardy, France that year.
I have been selected for the European Young Rider Squad five times and have also represented my country at Europeans and Nations Cups many times.

I do try and do a lot of teaching and training. We often have pupils come and stay with us for a couple of weeks at a time. They travel to shows with us and become a part of the team. When I have time, I do clinics all over the country, however this is usually in the winter when the show season clams down.
We currently have around 18 horses in training, so as you can imagine things are very busy with the show season getting well under way again! We have just come home from a successful four weeks competing in Vilamoura (Portugal), where we took nine horses and achieved many placings throughout.
Becky and myself are very lucky to have an exciting team of horses coming through and I would like to thank my current owners for all their support. I am looking forward to the year ahead – we have got some great shows planned both at home and abroad. Our closest show of the year is Newark county show, which we will be going to next month with the older horses.
