This week’s trainer in the spotlight is 28-year-old showjumper Phillip Curtis from Doncaster:
Hello, I’m Phillip Curtis and I’m an affiliated showjumper based in Doncaster. I have been riding all of my life and I think that it’s safe to say that I was riding before I was talking!
I have always mainly been into the showjumping side of the sport. I have competed at all levels, including youngsters through to grand Prix. I also teach lessons throughout the year for riders of all abilities, as I am now an accredited UKCC level two coach. In addition to this I also teach some of the local riding clubs too.
I am based at Stone Lodge Equestrian Centre in Doncaster, which is easily accessible. Stone Lodge is also starting unaffiliated shows. My partner owns SR stud where I ride and compete the horses. Here they have horses with exceptional breeding and some talented youngsters to watch out for.
The two older stallions, Arkantine SR and Master Reuben SR, are currently competing at 1.20m. They will both take part in the British bred stallion parade in January 2016, ridden by me. I also compete my own horse, Genesa, at 1.30m. She is a Czechoslovakian warmblood with speed and scope.
The bay horse jumping in the photo is Arkantine SR at Arena UK and the chestnut horse is my own Genesa. I won the trophies this year, at the Area Trial, for being the highest placed member.
