Grass roots riders have access to some great horse shows in Cornwall, with some excellent horse show venues available throughout this beautiful county. Whatever your discipline or level of ability, from novice to experience, dressage to jumping to showing, there will be a horse show to suit you in Cornwall.
Horse show venues in Cornwall
A popular Cornish horse show venue is Colraine Equestrian Centre, in Truro. With a bursting calendar of events and competitions, there are affiliated and unaffiliated classes available to competitors virtually every weekend year-round. This equestrian competition centre in Cornwall has fantastic facilities including indoor and outdoor arenas, and offers dressage and showjumping clinics and training sessions with respected local and regional trainers.
The Cornwall Horse Trials is an one-day event that takes place in May in Lanhyrock, Bodmin. The show is unaffiliated but follows British Eventing rules, and draws a host of competitors from the region. Taking place on a stunning estate owned by the National Trust, these horse trials give local grassroots riders the opportunity to compete in 450 acres of parks and woodland.
The Royal Cornwall Show, in Wadebridge, held in June, attracts equestrian competitors from all over the country – with classes for donkeys available too! Showjumping is a major part of this show, and has been known to attract some top names, as well as the best of the local riders. This top agricultural show has been running for more than 220 years!
Regular events and competitions are held at Chyverton Park, an equine training and competition centre in Zelah, near Truro. Facilities here include a 100 fence cross-country course for all abilities with fences built to British Eventing standards, 60×30 all-weather outdoor dressage arena, 45×25 all-weather warm-up arena, full set of BSJA show jumps, and an outdoor jumping arena with Derby Bank.
