Equine events in Hertfordshire attract some of the country’s best riders, as well as grass roots competitors. Whatever your ability or discipline, there’ll be a show or competition for you.
Horse show venues in Hertfordshire
Oaklands College runs an exciting programme of events from its equestrian centre on the St Albans college campus. Facilities include a 20×40 indoor arena, 25×60 outdoor arena, and a cross-country course with a selection of fences ranging from 1’6” to 3’6”. With affiliated and unaffiliated dressage competitions, showjumping clinics and even dressage to music on offer, it’s a great venue for the keen Hertfordshire equestrian.
Competitive children, teenagers and adults will find a thriving programme of equestrian events catering to them at Petasfield Equestrian Centre and Pony Club Centre in Hertford, including TREC, dressage and showjumping.
Icklefield Equestrian & Pony Club Centre in Hitchin, Herts, is another fun competition centre for children and teenagers, with events including unaffiliated dressage.
Kimpton Horse Show is an annual show that takes place in July in the pretty Hertfordshire village of the same name. Now in its 72nd year, set up at the end of the Second World War by villagers who wanted to give Kimpton a heart, the show has a jam-packed schedule of showing, showjumping, gymkhana, fancy dress, working hunter classes and much more.
The Hertfordshire County Show, held annually in May at the showground in Redbourn, Herts, also has a variety of classes for equestrians, including side-saddle, scurry driving and donkeys, as well as a range of showing classes. A great family day out, there’s loads more on offer including falconry, cattle showing, stunt riders, and a whole host of other rural attractions.
