Despite being a busy metropolis, you’ll find a thriving selection of horse shows in London and the surrounding areas. Some of the UK’s premier horse show are located in or around London. Whatever your ability or discipline, there’ll be a show or competition for you.
Horse show venues in London and the surrounding area
The London International Horse Show takes place at Olympia in December, signifying to equestrians all round the country that Christmas is here! Drawing top international competitors, it’s famous for the Puissance, Shetland Pony Grand National, dressage and showjumping legs of the FEI World Cup and of course the Christmas finale! In 2014, Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro produced a new world record score in the Reem Acra FEI World Cup, scoring 87.46%, beating their own previous record-beating score!
The UK’s largest outdoor show, the annual Royal Windsor Horse Show, takes place just outside London during the month of May. Held in the private grounds of beautiful Windsor Castle, home to the Queen, this world-famous horse show plays host to international showjumping, dressage, driving, showing and endurance competitions. Drawing top international competitors and grass roots riders alike, it also hosts a number of national classes, including the Walwyn Novice Jumping Championships and the WHMG Inter Hunt Team Knockout.
Trent Park Equestrian Centre, in North East London, is a useful horse show venue in London. It runs a large variety of equestrian events alongside its normal programme of lessons and hacks. Shows and competitions are held most weekends throughout the summer; whatever your equestrian field or level of ability, there’ll be a class to suit you. Dressage competitions run throughout the year on Fridays or Bank Holidays using British Dressage intro, preliminary and novice tests, ridden in either a 20x40m or 20x60m arena.
Docklands Equestrian Centre, in East London, holds regular events and clinics and runs a variety of children’s activities during term time and the school holidays. This charity welcomes donations in order to help keep equestrianism accessible to inner city riders of all abilities.
