King Sedgmoor Equestrian Centre, on the Somerset Levels, is a fabulous purpose-built equestrian competition centre serving the south west. A family business owned and run by Jon, Charlotte and Julian Warman, the centre’s great facilities include a huge outdoor arena, a full set of competition standard show jumps, a training set of jumps, working hunter rustic jumps and portable cross-country jumps. For British dressage events, the arena is split into two 20×60 arenas with judges’ boxes, plus a good sized warm-up area. King Sedgmoor Equestrian runs regular clear round jumping evenings, as well as a full schedule of competitions including British Dressage and British Showjumping affiliated events.

Nunney International Horse Trials, in Frome, takes place in June. Drawing a crowd of grass-roots and top competition riders, the CIC2* was won in 2015 by Sam Jennings on Coleplay. The cross-country course has been designed by London Olympics 2012 course builder Adrian Ditcham and is beautifully built by the Willis Bros. The horse trials offers all four tracks – BE 100, novice, intermediate and CIC2*.

Described in none other than Horse & Hound as ‘nothing short of equestrian heaven’, Stretcholt Equestrian is a state-of-the-art equestrian centre on the Somerset Levels, just 10 minutes from the M5. The centre has an excellent range of facilities including a full-size indoor school, a floodlight outdoor school with all-weather surfaces equipped with show and working hunter jumps, and ample lit hard-surface parking. It hosts a full calendar of events including affiliated/unaffiliated dressage, showjumping, BSPS area shows, teach-ins, auctions, driving classes, breed shows and dog agility.

Situated on the Somerset/Devon border, less than 15 miles from Taunton and Yeovil and Honiton, Chard Equestrian is a grass equestrian centre which provides a showground and training facilities for all equestrian activities in the region. The home of the South West Showjumping Club, it runs regular affiliated and unaffiliated showjumping competitions, dressage and combined training events, with fully portable cross-country fences also available for competitions. The centre also runs low-key showjumping, dressage and clear round events every Wednesday evening.
