Competitive riders will find a thriving selection of horse shows in the south west of England, with some fantastic horse show venues located in this part of the country. Equine events in the south west are held regularly in venues throughout the region, attracting some of the country’s best riders, as well as offering lots of opportunities for grassroots competitors. Horse show venues in the south west of England
Kingston Maurward College in Dorset offers a wide range of top-class facilities and services to competitors of all levels. All facilities can be hired for shows, rallies and training purposes.
Leyland Court Equestrian Centre, near Bristol, is a prime venue for horse events in the south west, boasting both a derby arena with devil’s dyke, derby bank, ditches, water jump and road crossing, as well as a 1.5 mile long cross-country course consisting of 100 obstacles of all types ranging from 60cms to 1 metre in height. With three outdoor arenas, and an indoor arena in the pipeline, the equestrian centre is able to offer a year-round schedule of events.
Devon is home to both Bicton Arena and Bicton College, which are both located on the Clinton Estate, close to junction 30 on the M5. Both affiliated and unaffiliated competitions are held throughout the year across each discipline, alongside clinics and lecture demonstrations and training camps.
One of the top horse show venues in Cornwall is Colraine Equestrian Centre, in Truro. With a calendar full to bursting with events and competitions, there are affiliated and unaffiliated classes available to competitors virtually every weekend year-round. The equine centre has great facilities including indoor and outdoor arenas, and offers dressage and show jumping clinics and training sessions with respected local and regional trainers.
West Wilts Equestrian Centre, in Holt, Wiltshire, is another key centre for equestrian events in the south west. It has a 72×30.5 sand and clopf fibre indoor arena with a heated viewing platform and sponsors’ room, and two large outdoor arenas, and offers a full programme of competitions to riders of all levels in the South West. Affiliated and unaffiliated dressage and showjumping, BE events, combined training, hunter trials and unaffiliated ODEs are among the events it regularly hosts, as well as training and clinics.
