One of the major show centres in Yorkshire, offering events and competitions to riders of all disciplines and abilities, is Richmond Equestrian Centre, in Richmond, North Yorkshire. The Richmond BE horse trials, taking place over three days in August, regularly draw top competitors from all over the country, including Piggy French and Oliver Townend, competing against local talent such as Phoebe Powell and Storm Straker. With fantastic facilities – two indoor and two outdoor arenas, all-weather gallops and a British Eventing-affiliated cross-country course at 90/100/novice/intermediate – local riders have a full calendar of affiliated and unaffiliated events available to attend.

One of the UK’s leading equestrian training centres, the Yorkshire Riding Centre, near Harrogate, has been offering training to horses and students from all round the world for more than 50 years. Run by ex-Olympians Christopher Bartle and his sister Jane Bartle-Wilson, facilities include two Olympic-sized outdoor arenas, two large indoor arenas, a cross-country course, show jumps and stabling. It’s used for Pony Club and riding club events, and Pennine View Stud, also based in Harrogate, uses its facilities to host monthly affiliated and unaffiliated dressage competitions.

Manor Grange Stud Show Centre, in Knottingly, West Yorkshire, is a family business established since 1982 that offers great facilities and events to grassroots riders in Yorkshire. With a large sand and rubber competition arena, the equestrian centre hosts a variety of events and competitions throughout the year, including affiliated and unaffiliated dressage, and a carriage driving competition. If you live locally, it’s well worth checking it out.
